The plot of this book is implausible. Beth was abducted when she was 6, although not sexually assaulted. In the book, Beth is now 24 years old, which means she's been dealing with the resulting trauma for 18 years!! During those 18 years, she's been surrounded by enablers who support her during her frequent, if not nightly, nightmares and other triggers. Now, I'm not diminishing her trauma, but for her to be so profoundly, continually affected after 18 years seems wrong to me. Where was the therapy when she was young?? Why does everyone coddle her when she's freaking out. Seems to me Beth would have gotten fed up with being unable to live a normal life and sought help. Then along comes Shane, the CEO of the company hired by Beth's brother to protect her. So Shane immediately picks her up in a book store, and falls for her like a ton of bricks. Really??? There is no chemistry between Beth and Shane. He doesn't tell her his company was hired to personally protect her, so their "relationship" is based on a lie. Beth continues to freak out on Shane almost every time they're together and he helps her without ever suggesting she get professional help. Shane is supposed to be this alpha male, but he turns to putty when he's with Beth. And Beth turns into a mental mess when she's with Shane. Blech!!!
