Worry has a way of growing, shifting from not-a-big-deal to a VERY BIG DEAL in the blink of an eye. This big-deal Worry is tricky, luring children into behaviours that keep the anxiety cycle going. Children often find it hard to fight back against Worry, but not anymore. Outsmarting Worry teaches 9-13 year olds and the adults who care about them a specific set of skills that makes it easier to face - and overcome - worries and fears. Smart, practical, proven techniques are presented in language immediately accessible to children with an emphasis on shifting from knowing to doing, from worried to happy and free.

I purchased this book for my son who has been struggling with anxiety for the past 4 months. He threw up in class last year and has anxiety ever since about throwing up. He doesnt like it, no one does but it had been keeping him from going to school even after we saw a therapist, tried calm gummies, and saw a gastroenterologist. We are even doing Headspace, the meditation app every morning before school and once before bed. He was having daily visits to the nurse. I finally felt like a new mom after months and months of constant struggle after we got this book! I read ahead to check it out first, until ch 8. Then i started from the beginning with him. For a whole week he WASN'T anxious, scared, dizzy, feeling sick, nurse trips, depressed looking- i mean his whole demeanor could change in a matter of minutes before reading this. It has been great!!!!! He was happy, singing, not upset or worried at all! Until....chapter 17!! "But im still scared"I am so disappointed that i read this chapter to him. I wish i would have skipped it without him knowing because ever since...almost immediately during reading this chapter he sunk down. The morning after, getting ready for school and his demeanor back to where it was before the book started, quiet, dark eyes, sad, scared. I hate that i read that chapter to him and i really wish it wasnt even in the book. It may be a turning point for some, but for my son, it did the opposite. Im hoping and praying i can get his mindset back to where it was before chapter 17.Feeling discouraged.
